Gezellig is actually a Dutch word. Yes, we’re being international this week… It truthfully cannot be defined, but the closest definition is something akin to warmth and coziness. Time spent with loved ones… I encourage you to look it up if you get the chance.
It’s pronounced heh-sell-ick.
I hope you enjoy. Thank you!

Our Love on Repeat
Gezellig (n): coziness.
Anxiety was like an obnoxious song stuck in her head. No matter how much she tried to drown it out, the tune kept looping over and over, getting louder and louder with every succeeding attempt of silencing it.
Ella drew little hearts on the fog her breath left behind on the window. The action was mindless, but the repeating motion of her fingers lessened the weight of her doubts.
“They’ll love you, I’m sure,” Nathan said.
He knew his love couldn’t take this away. The darkness creeping over her lungs, stealing away her breath in the wake of pure panic. The fears that would keep her up at night. The worries that would build up like water on one side of a dam until she couldn’t hold the flood back anymore.
But he also knew that if he weathered the storm with her, they would both make it through. They would make it through stronger than they were before.
Nathan started talking. Empty words to fill the hollowness of the silence shuddering between them.
Crossing the gate made up of intricate metal lattices, they traveled down the dust-beaten road, lined with carefully pruned rose bushes.
“Emilia is coming tonight,” he announced quietly.
Emilia was Nathan’s oldest younger sister… Ella hadn’t formally met her yet. Nor had she really met Maybelline, Nathan’s other sister. They had only seen each other in passing.
“Things are a little tense… I’m sorry.”
“No… it’s okay. It’s one dinner. I can make it through.”
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to,” Nathan tells her quietly. “It’s not too late. We can tell them we couldn’t make it…”
His words warmed her. The fact that he understood. That he knew how to be protective without becoming suffocating. That he never treated her like she was weak, or somehow less. That he offered her an out.
That just made her more determined to go through with this.
“No, I’m excited to meet your family. Let’s go.”
She offered him a tentative smile.
Nathan took her hand as they stepped out of the car. Their matching rings glinted in the soft pink lambency of pale twilight.
And in that second, Ella truly felt she could be anything. Could do anything in the world as long as Nathan chose to stay by her side.
And she knew he felt the same way.
That was love.
